Grant Seekers
The Special Initiatives Program provides support to nonprofits that impact the Chicago region and whose work connects with the Foundation’s mission to improve civic health in our communities. Our funding priorities include civic, cultural, educational, health and social service institutions. Grants for general and program support, as well as capital and endowment campaigns are considered. The Foundation awards approximately 15-20 Special Initiatives grants annually, with 95 percent of the funds going to institutions that serve Chicagoland.
Application Process
Before submitting a proposal, an organization should send a two-to-three page letter of inquiry that describes the nature, purpose and cost of the proposed program. The letter also should outline the need for the program and the qualifications of the organization. Letters of inquiry are discussed internally and initial ideas are presented to the board quarterly for consideration. Foundation staff will contact the organization to indicate whether they are invited
to submit a formal proposal.
The McCormick Foundation will accept inquiries at any time during the year. However, most Special Initiatives Program grants are awarded by the Board of Directors in December of each year. Please
