Support those who have sacrificed for us.
Campaign’s Purpose
Operation Healing Freedom is a national fundraising campaign focused on assisting wounded members of our armed forces, veterans and their families who have made lasting sacrifices in this country’s armed conflicts. Grants from Operation Healing Freedom will be directed to the highest-quality agencies targeting veterans’ greatest needs, including the following:
- Physical and mental health
- Family support
- Adaptive housing and equipment
- Job training and placement
Profound Need
- More than 30,000 Americans have been wounded in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
- Serious injuries and disabilities are much more frequent in modern warfare: amputations, traumatic brain injuries and chronic stress of combat.
- Between 2003 and 2007, approximately 60,000 soldiers were diagnosed with either post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injuries.
- Currently the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has a significant backlog of medical claims, even before veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are factored in.
Matching Funds and Administrative Costs
The McCormick Tribune Foundation will match the first $2 million raised at 50 cents to the dollar, up to $1 million. The Foundation will cover all administrative costs, so that 100 percent of every donation can be used to provide services to veterans.
Partnership
The McCormick Tribune Foundation has partnered with several prominent investment firms to create Operation Healing Freedom. The sponsor firms include:
- Chicago Growth Partners
- GTCR Golder Rauner
- Madison Dearborn Partners
- Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe
The sponsor firms have provided the initial funding for Operation Healing Freedom, and continue to work with the financial community to raise additional money for the fund.
