McCORMICK TRIBUNE FOUNDATION APPOINTS DIANE GUTENKAUF
AS DIRECTOR OF THE ROBERT R. McCORMICK MUSEUM

The McCormick Tribune Foundation proudly announces the addition of Diane Gutenkauf as director
of the Robert R. McCormick Museum. Diane brings more than 20 years of museum experience as she
assumes responsibility of all aspects of the Robert R. McCormick Museum operations, programming and preservation.
“Our benefactor, Col. Robert R. McCormick, left Cantigny and his home for the residents and visitors of Illinois
to enjoy and use,” said David L. Grange, president and chief executive officer of the McCormick Tribune Foundation.”
Diane’s wealth of museum experience ensures the proper preservation of his legacy and that the museum continues to
be vibrant part of the community.”
The Robert R. McCormick Museum is located in Cantigny, a 500-acre public park and recreation area in Wheaton, Ill.
This historic house depicts the life and the accomplishments of the late Col. Robert R. McCormick, the longtime
editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune, and his family.
Gutenkauf has an extensive background as a museum professional. She managed interpretation and exhibits at the
Morton Arboretum and worked as a private consultant for the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum,
and West Chicago City Museum. She also served as a curator of exhibitions and collections for the Elmhurst
Historical Museum. Most recently, she worked for a multi-million dollar exhibit-fabrication company as its chief
business developer in the museum division.
“I am excited about the opportunity to expand Robert R. McCormick Museum’s reach to other communities and audiences,”
said Diane Gutenkauf. “Through more robust educational programming, special events and community partners, we are
staying true to our Foundation’s mission of investing in our communities.”
Gutenkauf holds a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Grinnell College, a Master of Arts in anthropology from
Northern Arizona University and a Museum Studies Certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Some of her industry achievements include a series of awards from the Illinois Association of Museums, and a
variety of professional presentations and publications.
Gutenkauf currently serves on many civic boards including the Board of Directors of the Campbell Center for
Historic Preservation Studies, National Association For Museum Exhibition—a Standing Professional Committee
of the American Association of Museums, Co-President of the Elmhurst Historical Society, and memberships in
the American Public Garden Association,, American Association for State and the Local History and the Visitors
Studies Association.
