The McCormick Tribune Foundation and many of its communities program partners—newspapers, broadcasters and sports teams—established the McCormick Tribune Foundation Hurricane Katrina Relief Campaign to raise money for victims of the hurricane, which swept through the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29.
To date, the McCormick Tribune Foundation Hurricane Katrina Relief Campaign has raised more than $9.3 million from more than 47,000 donors, and the foundation has added $1 million in matching funds to this amount. Thus far, more than $3.9 million has been distributed to non-profit agencies providing services to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Remaining dollars raised will be distributed in spring 2006.
“The McCormick Tribune Foundation strongly supports agencies that offer short-term and long-term assistance to communities struggling with the hurricane’s aftermath,” said David L. Grange, president and chief executive officer of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. “It is more than just giving a blanket to a cold person. It is about how we are helping our children, Gulf Coast communities and country start over and rebuild for the future.”

About the McCormick Tribune Foundation’s Communities Program
The only program of its kind in the country, the McCormick Tribune Foundation’s communities program is designed to encourage and improve the social and economic conditions of 32 communities nationwide by leveraging the knowledge and local presence of newspapers, television and radio stations, and sports organizations around the U.S. To date the communities program has awarded $617 million in grants to local and national organizations.
About the McCormick Tribune Foundation
The McCormick Tribune Foundation is one of the nation’s largest charitable organizations, with combined assets of approximately $1.4 billion. In 2004, the foundation approved the distribution of more than $109 million to invest in children, communities and our country in an effort to strengthen our democratic society through innovative partnerships. The foundation, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2005, was established as a charitable trust upon the death of Col. Robert R. McCormick, longtime editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. The foundation is an independent non-profit, separate from Tribune Co., with substantial holdings in Tribune Co.
The foundation provides assistance in four program areas—communities, education, journalism and citizenship—and funds a special initiatives program. Through its grants, the foundation seeks to improve the social and economic environment; encourage a free and responsible discussion of issues affecting the nation; enhance the effectiveness of American education; and stimulate responsible citizenship.
