Education
Our grantees were leaders in making Illinois the first state to offer "Preschool For All,"
voluntary free quality preschool to all children ages 3-5.
|
Mission
The Education Program seeks to create a statewide system that provides access
to quality early care and education for all children ages birth-to-five and improves
the quality of programs serving those young children in low-income communities in
the Chicago region.
Reflecting Col. Robert R. McCormick's wishes that his bequest be used for "religious,
scientific, literary or educational purposes…," the McCormick Tribune Foundation
maintains a strong commitment to education. In 1993, responding to new research
in brain development and its effect on early learning, the Foundation's board of
directors changed the direction of the Education Program to focus on the needs of
Chicago's youngest children. The Education Program funds in the areas of public
policy, quality assurance strategies and public awareness. Learn more
about the work that we support under our three priority areas as well as the Kohl McCormick
Early Childhood Teaching Awards.
