Guidelines
The Baltimore Sun Charities Fund provides grants to organizations that assist children, youth and families in need throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area. The Baltimore Sun Charities will include the campaign, The Baltimore Sun Holiday Campaign "Spirit of Sharing."
Primary Interests
The Baltimore Sun Holiday Campaign will address the following areas and needs.
Children and Youth
- Programs which provide holiday gifts of toys, clothing & books for children
- Youth development organizations which provide mentoring, educational, recreational and character development programs
Family Support
- Services to families in distress, domestic violence, parenting
programs, and family counseling
Basic Human Needs (Homelessness and Hunger)
- Food banks and programs that provide local hunger relief
- Emergency, temporary, and transitional housing shelters and living programs
- Energy/utility assistance and other programs which provide necessities for living during harsh weather months
Application Procedures
All requests for support must be in writing using the standard application, as required by the McCormick Foundation.
Grant awards will range between $1,000 and $25,000 for specific programs or general support of the requesting organization. An agency may apply for general support when all of the agency’s programs fit within the guidelines for the Baltimore Sun’s Holiday Campaign. Agencies may only apply for funding under one of the "Spirit of Sharing" campaign focus areas: children and youth, family support, and basic human needs.
The McCormick Foundation does not make grants to programs that would financially benefit The Baltimore Sun, Tribune Company, or its subsidiaries.
